Episode 957: Family excited to bring dad home in 2025 based on early Amazon success!

Family excited to bring dad home in 2025 based on early Amazon success!

On today’s new podcast episode, I spend time with a ProvenAmazonCourse.com / coaching student who is loving her journey towards eventually going full-time with her husband into their Amazon selling and e-commerce business. They are well on their way and super excited!

They have seven kids (most of whom help with the business) and he works full time as an electrician, but she has found about 10-15 hours per week to work the business and they are very encouraged by the results they are getting so far in their journey!

They have a goal of eventually doing e-commerce together full-time as their primary income and buying some land to homestead while they grow their business together. They hope to achieve this in 2025.

They live in a fairly rural area, so they do most of their sourcing online. They use a lot of the “above buy box” strategies as well which we discuss.

We discuss the challenges in balancing the business with family life, her sourcing and pricing strategies, and her long-term business goals.

At the end of today’s episode, stick around for a discussion with Jimmy Smith about how he’s found 1,000s of great ASINs! You’re invited to a free webinar where he’ll unpack the system that he uses called the “Evergreen Sourcing System” that has his team finding numerous great ASINs every day for his Amazon catalog!

Katie’s E-Commerce Business and Family

Katie and her husband, who is an electrician, started an e-commerce business in December 2023 after discovering Jim in a Facebook group. Initially, Katie was the only one involved in the business, but her family soon became involved as well. Her children, ranging from 18 months to 17 years old, have been helping with various tasks such as sticker application, bagging, and prepping. The family’s goal is to eventually phase out of the electrical business and use the e-commerce business to fund their dream of buying land. Katie’s 17-year-old son has recently expressed interest in learning how to source products, which Katie plans to teach him.

Katie’s Amazon Selling Journey and Strategy

Katie shared her journey with Amazon selling, starting with a $100 monthly investment in Keepa, the pack course, and the kickstart program. She initially aimed to learn the systems and break even, but by March or April, she decided to make money. By August, she started coaching and saw her sales almost double each month. She also discussed her decision to use credit cards to grow her business, which she felt was a low-risk, low-learning curve opportunity with high odds of success. Katie’s husband was involved in the decision-making process, and they prayed about it before committing to the credit cards.

Balancing Amazon Business and Family

Katie, a homeschooling mom of seven, discussed her challenges in balancing her Amazon business with her family life. She mentioned that she tries to schedule her sourcing and Zoom calls around her children’s schedules, but it often results in her working in short intervals throughout the day. She estimated that she spends around 10 to 15 hours a week on her business, with some weeks being more productive than others. Katie also shared her strategy of pushing hard during the first half of the month and then slowing down towards the end to enjoy the holidays. She expressed her hope that her husband would be able to join her in managing the business next year, allowing for better time management.

Katie’s Amazon Business and Family Involvement

Katie and Jim discussed Katie’s business, which primarily involves sourcing and selling household goods and home decor items on Amazon. Katie’s family, including her teenage children, are involved in the business, with the children handling packing and preparation tasks. Katie is considering hiring a virtual assistant to help with sourcing. They also discussed the challenges of Amazon’s ungating policies and how Katie overcame them by focusing on ungated categories and building a good selling history. Katie’s long-term goal is to bring her husband back into the business and eventually move to a homestead lifestyle with more land and freedom for their children.

Building a Robust Business System

In the meeting, Katie and Jim discussed Katie’s business goals and aspirations, particularly her vision of bringing her family together under one roof. Jim emphasized the importance of building a robust system with multiple income streams to ensure the business’s continuity, even in the absence of the owner. He also stressed the need for intentional relationship-building within the community to foster growth and opportunities. Katie expressed her excitement and optimism about the future, acknowledging the need for a backup system to ensure the business’s stability. The conversation concluded with SilentJim.com encouraging Katie to continue seeking out opportunities and connections within the community.

Katie’s Sourcing and Pricing Strategies

In the meeting, Katie and Jim discussed Katie’s sourcing and pricing strategies for her Amazon business. Katie revealed that she typically starts her prices high and only sells items if she can break even at the lowest buy box price over a year. She also mentioned that she sources new products by looking at what other sellers are selling, particularly those with fewer than 10 reviews. Katie’s strategy has been successful, with about 50% of her sales being significantly above the buy box price. She also shared that she is currently working on improving her accounting and tracking of profits. Jim offered to connect Katie with resources for help with accounting and taxes.

Building Business With Just-in-Time Learning

In the meeting, Katie and Jim discussed Katie’s journey towards building her business using the internet. Katie expressed her struggles with mindset and the need to learn more, but also acknowledged the importance of taking action and implementing what she knows. SilentJim.com emphasized the need for just-in-time learning and taking action, rather than just-in-case learning. They also discussed the upcoming Proven Conference in Orlando, which Katie expressed interest in attending. Katie also mentioned her involvement in a mastermind group and her desire to form connections with other coaching students. The conversation ended with SilentJim.com encouraging Katie to reach out if she needed any further assistance.

Family’s Journey to Amazon Success

Jim discussed the journey of a family of seven, including a homeschooling mother and her electrician husband, who are building an online business together. The family started with a small investment of $50 and gradually gained confidence in their business, eventually becoming coaching students. They primarily buy inventory online and sell products on Amazon, flipping them on the most promising listings. The family has about 150 products they sell against at any given time. Jim also mentioned the upcoming Proven Conference in Orlando, Florida, from May 29th to 31st, 2025, which will feature education, instruction, and a community of Amazon sellers.
