Start Your Own Amazon Prep Center Using Space You Already Have
In this training, you’ll learn how a small, practical prep center can be built using the resources you already have — whether that’s garage space, a basement, or an unused room. Instead of trying to compete with massive warehouse operations, you’ll discover how many successful prep centers actually start small and grow strategically. You’ll see exactly how the process works, how Amazon sellers use prep centers every day, and how you can build systems that allow you to provide a valuable service while creating a new income stream.
This course walks you step-by-step through everything you need to get started the right way — from setting up your space and choosing the right supplies to creating the systems, SOPs, and workflows that keep your operation running smoothly. We’ll also cover the financial side of running a prep center, including realistic margins, costs, and insurance considerations. You’ll hear directly from experienced prep center owners in a panel discussion, and you’ll be introduced to a growing network of sellers and operators who are building this type of business together. If you’ve ever wondered how prep centers work or whether starting one could fit into your current Amazon journey, this training will give you the clarity and roadmap to find out.
WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY EXISTS RIGHT NOW
Amazon sellers are outsourcing more than ever — and reliable prep centers are in high demand.
That means if you have even a small amount of space, you can step in and provide a valuable service to sellers who need help right now.
Week 1 – Introduction – A Prep Center in my house?
Scale is key, this is a small scale operation where you have infrastructure in place already (garage space, basement, small warehouse or storage space that you’re already using). In a larger prep center you have a lot of overhead, this is very little
There is a hole in the marketplace for both sellers that want to use their space a little bit more and smaller, newer prep clients that are having a hard time, this will connect the two
Learn from my mistakes and knowledge – take the resources and experience of a larger prep center and apply them on a smaller scale.
Week 2 – SOPs/Set up – supplies, adapting your space
How to outfit space based on your needs and adding customers
Supplier recommendations, getting started on SOP’s for receiving and managing work flow
Week 3 – Systems
We will discuss system options for prep and ship on a smaller scale like Inventory Lab and Scan Power
Continue with SOP’s in regards to the systems and shipping
Week 4 – Numbers – Finances, tax nexus, etc.
Margins on how this would help with cash flow of the business – you essentially flip the model of a traditional Amazon seller and limit the high variable costs of a larger prep center
We will discuss necessary and optional variable costs
We will attempt to have Cindy Smith on as a special guest to talk about “tax free states” and applicable accounting and tax issues
Week 5 – Panel discussion with prep center owners
Q&A with multiple prep center owners who run different operations and would have different perspectives on things
Week 6 – Prep center network and ecom group – Customer acquisition
Customer acquisition – being part of the prep center network will help find customers in addition to helping you develop your unique sales pitch
Group will be formed in ECom on Demand for continued support
WHO IS THIS FOR?
The training is taught by Ryan Walsh who started out as an eBay seller with a specialty in sports memorabilia who wanted to expand into Amazon so he joined the Jim Cockrum coaching program to expand onto Amazon. After accelerating quickly he processed tens of thousands of items out of less than a hundred square feet of space in his basement. When he grew out of that space he wanted a prep centerreaching out to several, only hearing back from one and getting turned down. So instead of joining one he partnered with a local facility and built his own as part of a 5,000 3PL warehouse. He then partnered with the warehouse to expand it to 18,000 square and continues to scale. Given his background in education he wants to share the systems that he’s learned on both the small scale and large scale to help you monetize a space that small in your own house to offset the expenses of your business.
